Colors , Feelings and Emotions.
Color is define as light that is reflected off the aspect of things and objects that we see. Objects also absorb the light reflected on them. Color is definitely used to represent emotions. If an artist used darker colors for instance , black , gray , navy blue, or dark blue most people would get the impression of sadness, anger, or maybe loneliness because that is the kind of emotions that those colors usually bring out of people.
A theoretical aspect of color that most intrigues me is the way in which it was used to make emotions derive out of an artist. For instance, June Redrem , an artist from east London who went all the way to Venice to find inspiration for her next painting being that she received inspiration from them before. When she got back home to paint the things she saw. It took her 2 weeks+ for her to find the right colors she wanted to use , so that she would have that feel of Venice by looking at it .
What made the biggest impact on me in regards to color and its effects on emotion was the length to which artist extended to get their paintings the way they wanted it . For instance, in ancient times certain colors like " ultra marine " and " cor-line red " were imported from various parts of the world.Cora-line red was made from crushed beetles which really fascinated me. Again going back to Ms. Redrem who repeatedly repainted her painting until she felt it was the right colors. If the painting did not give her that feel or emotion that reminded her of Venice she would have done it over.
What made the biggest impact on me in regards to color and its effects on emotion was the artist Goya. How rugged and mean and in my opinion disturbing his paintings were showed that emotions can speak through a painter and to thew observer. Matthew collings the narrator of the video mentioned that Goya used to paint relatively nice picture that were more pleasing to the eye. Until Goya's 40's where he became ill and that's when he began to paint the paintings that he painted.I feel like Goya's paintings truly reflect on how a persons emotions can reflect through their painting , because though he painted about politics and revolution he did so in a way where a person had to think twice.
