Module 8 , Video Reviews

1.  I selected the video " The measure of All Things : Greek Art and the Human Figure" because the first video that we were assigned to watch was about the sculpture and detailed depictions  and positions of the human body as a sculpture so i thought that in one way or another they would coincide based of their titles.

2. The Key concepts that I learned in the first video , " More Human than Human " was that in most cases in ancient times , when sculptures of the human body were created they had unrealistic and exaggerated body features that didn't match the features of an actual person . For instance , the nomadic way of depicting the body was 2 dimensional and show each part of the body from, whatever angle it is drawn from .

The key concepts that i learned from the second video " The measure of all things : Greek art and the human figure " was how far sculpting the human body has come along from ancient times . In this video they spoke about how Greek sculptures inspired people in Greece to do things like work out to try to match these sculptures because it was thought that the sculptures are how people are suppose to be seen .

3.  The videos relate to the readings in the text in ways that they both illustrate the influences sculptors had to create sculptures of the body. For instance , Athletes , kings , and queens . They both explain how some sculptures are sometimes based off culture and personal preference. Also , they explain how sculptures influence other people .

4. I think the films did a great deal of explaining the evolution of sculptures of the human body. For instance , illustrating how sculptures went from unrealistic and exaggerated to trying to or i should say actually creating sculptures that depict movement .

Architecture

The two videos i watched for this assignment were " Last call for planet earth: sustainable development and Architecture " and " Frank Gnery: Architecture as Art."

1. The key concepts that i learned from the first video was how architecture is really dependent on many aspects, such as climate and the atmosphere. Also, how the architects try to avoid many things such as trying not to pollute air, trying to use as little energy as they can and avoid materials that can use an lot of water.

They Key concepts that i learned from the second video was how beautiful architecture takes growth and more depth than people would think. For instance, the geometry . One of the artist in the video that were friends with the artist " The deconstruction of architecture and breaking down of its parts is the most important part of making a building successful ."

2. The videos relate to the readings in the text in ways that both the readings and the videos talk about the roots and the developments of architecture .

3. I think the films really added to the depth and understanding of what architecture really is. I think that the videos give viewers more insight to what an architect actually does and the tools needed to make the beautiful buildings we see around us today .

4. I chose the films that i watched simply because of the titles they had , for instance, i chose " Frank Gnery : Architecture as art " because i knew it would express architecture more from the standpoint of an artistg. The titles interested me , especially after reading the texts .

Videos and Reading Review , Sculpture , installation and Craft .

1.The key concepts learned in " Through the eyes of the sculptor " was mainly the beauty and the patience in the process of actually making a sculpture. For instance, the fact that the sculptor in the video , Emmanuel , had so many elements associated with his art piece. He had to draw, then clay , then mold with silicone then plaster. Its just so wow . So detailed

The key concepts that i learned from the " Glass and Ceramics " video was the process of reheating the bulb so many times just to receive the right hardness and shape pf the glass that was wanted . I am also intrigued by the fact that so much energy and chemistry goes into glass , though chemistry is everywhere , its interesting to know .

2. The videos Related to the readings in the text in that both explained in detail the process it takes to take art to the next level . To take art off the walls and off paper and to create Sculptures , items , art pieces that because could possibly connect more with .

3. I think the videos add a great sufficient amount of detail to the topics of Sculpture, installation , and Craft because reading the textbook you get an idea of what is being talked about but with the videos you really see how much work goes into it . You realize how attentive to detail the artist has to be for any of the projects learned about .

Albright Knox Gallery Visit

For this assignment we had the privilege to visit the Albright knox museum and find  6 beautiful paintings , 2 that impacted us , 2 that connected with us and another two that we wanted to know more about .

The two Paintings that impacted me were

          A. Robert Morta        Chilean , 1911-2002
               Oil On Canvas
          B. James Rosequist's      American , 1933
               Nomad, 1963

To begin with , The Robert Morta Painting impacted me because it was just so outstanding , just so different. It was wild but it was as if every " wildness" had a connection .Each board bounced of the other . Nomad , James Rosequist's painting also impacted because of its uniqueness , it was very unique and i feel like Rosequist may have been expressing himself in some way and i cant put my finger on the exact emotion but that is one of the main reasons it impacts me .

The two paintings what connected with me were Robert Arthur Goodnough's The struggle which was created in 1957. Hes an american artist who was born in 1917 and deceased in 2010. This piece connected with me because the title is so different from what i saw in the painting , I didn't see struggle but beauty because of what it took to get there. This connects with me for many reasons but, mainly because i feel like that's how people look at me in real life. They can call me one thing but if you look at me and my personality they are truly different. Ernst Ludwig Kirchner's Frauenbidnis        ( portrait of a women } also connected with me . He is a German artist . I connect with this painting mainly because of the fashion he chose for this women its really pretty and it inspires me to dress so elegantly because i've been wanting to for so long. i express myself through fashion.

The two paintings or pieces of work i should say that i wanted to know more about were Julian Obie's Julian and Suzanne walking . I wanted to know more about this art piece because i wanted to know the relationship that was between suzanne and Julian , and what inspired him to make such a piece. George Wesley Bellow's Ellinor, Jean , and Anna is a very interesting painting to me . I wanted to know more about this painting because of the expression that was on the little girls face . She looked so sad , like she did not want to be in the predicament she was in , between those two ladies and a book in her hand . I was really interested in knowing how she was feeling or why the author gave her that expression .

Logo Project

1. I created this logo first and foremost because " Tutu " is the nickname to my African name " Motunrayo " which means in my language " I have found joy again." so I wanted something that would be personal to me and truly represent me .

2. When I first read the outline of this project i already knew i wanted to use " tutu " to represent in some way , but i wanted to create an acronym that would represent and show my personality.

3. The most important discovery i made while creating this logo was that most people see me as different so i had to create patterns, and colors that would represent the difference between me and most people,

4.  The most important thing i learned from the power points and video is to have a logo hat is presentable and highly represents you and whatever your trying to promote to observers.

" To Unique, To Unaffected "

I strive to be the most independent woman i can be , being he only girl that my parents have i have t
o make them and myself proud , I refuse to let anything get in the way of the goals i have set for myself.
