Self Portrait Project

1. I selected the inspiration pieces that i did because they are all very unique and caught my eye in one way or another . For instance , I chose the portrait of Amirila Sher-qil because she looks very elegant and I admire the fashion pieces she decided to paint herself in . I chose the Edward Munch self portrait because he decided to paint himself in a serious and stern manner. I chose the David Alfaro Siquieres portrait because I feel like he painted himself in a way that most people do not .
2. I chose to do a simple sketch with pencil because i didnt have colors mainly and i though it would show better.
3. Some challenges I faced in creating my self portrait were actually trying to draw/paint every detail that is in the original photo , for instance , my chains .
4. I feel like this piece represents my Personality
5. Some elements and principals that I applied to this project were contrast and I would like to say unity as well especially among the 3 self portraits of the artist .
6. I enjoyed this project , mainly because I was able to browse through photos of various people , especially my own.
7.I think I should I actually may need a few lessons in drawing , But i did it to the best of my ability .

Art Curator Project 4

This project was actually interesting i love the idea of putting things together to create this one beautiful product. My exhibit was called a paradise exhibit so i chose different variations of paintings and pieces that represented paradise or what the artist illustrated to be paradise . My paradise exhibit has a variation of colors and I believe it gives a view a different viewer seeing each piece.

Module 12 , Blog Review

1. The two videos I chose were " Abstract Expressionism and pop : Art of the 50's and 60's " and " The Power of Art : Rothko " i chose these videos because based on their titles i thought they would be videos that were total opposites from one another and based of the readings from the text i assumed they would relate more to the ideas .

2. In the first video Abstract Expressionism they discussed mainly about an artist Franz Klein who spoke a lot through his art work . The narrator explained how a lot of abstract art piece titles may not look like its related to what was drawn/pained but it is more about what you feel when looking at an art piece rather than what you see. The narrator focused on a specific painting of Klein that supported the previous statement . He said , " it is almost as if the color was changing in response to our reactions ." In the second video , The power of art , they spoke a lot about an artist , Rothko, and his development as an artist . Rothko believed strongly in  art and the power of art . He believed that art could change the world . Rothko had many beliefs about art and how it should be followed and looked at , " A picture lives by companionship expanding and quickening in the eyes of the sensitive observer ." To me this means the judgement and meaning of a piece is up to the observer at the end of the day .

3. The videos relate to the readings in the text in that they both speak about the emotion of the artist and art . How the things and environment that an artist may be facing at the time can effect the product that they put out .

4. I think the feels were very influential and opened my eyes to a lot of insight about artist . I think they supported the text in full details . it gave the text more understanding .

Art Gallery Visit #2

For this Art Gallery Visit i attended the Burchfield penny art center Museum

1. The name of the exhibit is called Art in Craft media exhibit
2. The theme of the exhibition is to celebrate uniqueness with a focus on wood, fiber, glass , metal and ceramic.

1. The Art in craft media exhibit had a sense of strong lighting but it also had lightly shined spot light on each of the art pieces so that they stand out from one another and the surroundings.
2. The colors of the walls were painted white .
3. Materials used in the interior architecture of the space were just stand s for the art pieces some art pieces required shelves .
4. The movement of the viewer through the gallery space was very unparalleled and i say this because of the way the exhibit is set up . One piece is not set right next to or behind another which gives the viewer opportunity to observe all the pieces no matter the order.

1. The artworks were organized in a way where the viewer can ;look at the pieces in various orders and still be able to intake the message and the beauty of each piece.
2. The artworks were similar in ways that they are all unique and have many dimensions of color weather it is just a splash or very colorful .
3. The artworks are different in ways that they all have a different meaning and story to portray.
4. Some art pieces are framed in wood , while others are large pieces that stand on their own .
5. The artworks are identified by artist, title, year and materials used to make the piece.
6. The proximity of the art is very equally based. The art pieces compliment one another but yet stand as individual pieces .

Module 11 Blog Review

1. The videos i chose were " Expressionism " and " They Mystical North : Spanish Art from the 19th Century to the present " i chose these videos because after reading the assigned chapters in the text , it spoke a lot about artist expressing themselves through their work and i thought that these two videos would help give deeper meaning and give more illustration to what it means to express through ones work .

2. The first video " Expressionism " They spoke a lot about how various used their feelings and experiences and applied them to their art pieces .  For instance , the artist munch and his work piece " Ashes " it was explained to have burning passion because of the red hair and flames and how it also hinted into having a " sexual relationship " between the man and women painted in the art piece . In the art piece " Scream " which is one of the most famous among the art pieces , the artist explained that he was walking and felt a " scream " through the night and that is what inspired him to paint it .

The second video " The Mystical North : Spanish Art from the 19th century to the present " it touched a lot on the evolution and inspiration of Spanish art and how Spanish art has influenced other artist . This video touched on a few artist like Goya, Picasso and Dolly . Picasso was one of the artist who was greatly inspired by Spanish Art. According to the video Picasso had his first sexual encounter in Barcelona and it inspired many of his later works . The narrator spoke of how the art museum that was created by Picasso was to be his " Confession Chamber. "

3. The videos definitely relate to the text because both the reading and the videos show how artist express themselves through their artwork how various emotions and life experiences can affect the way an art piece can come out or even make others feel .

4. I think the films added great depth to the videos and it gave me a chance to understand more art pieces and how to possibly look at piece and try to feel and determine what the artist was feeling .

Module 10 blog review

1. The videos that I watched for this assignment were 1. African art and secondly African art: legacy of oppression. I selected these two videos because I am a child of African decent , I am a first generation Nigerian and I felt like these videos would give me some type of deeper insight to what African art is and how it started and things like that .

2. For the first video " African art "  I learned a lot about the representation of African art and where it comes from and mainly what it is for . Ain't this video it was explained that African art is not just art or not just a craft but it it is expressed as and is used for so much more , like everyday tools . Though there are art pieces that have grown fond to the public and are in museums around the world , most art is used to go about everyday life. In the second video I learned more about about the glorification and forms of African art. For instance the fact that in Central African most Africa glorified their mothers and sometimes their Chiefs. A lot of artist made masks for countries that believed in magic , for example the bosh culture believed in masks that were created to intimidate their enemies but stopped using them once they realized the " magic " was not worki in their favor .

3. The videos that I watched illustrate the text in great depth because it really demonstrates how people or a country within itself can take art to a different level of representation and meaning for themselves.

4.  I ink the films add a great depth of meaning to the reading and gives it more understanding . It shows more of how different cultures of art can express themselves and see themselves and how they express themselves through art .

Module 8 , Video Reviews

1.  I selected the video " The measure of All Things : Greek Art and the Human Figure" because the first video that we were assigned to watch was about the sculpture and detailed depictions  and positions of the human body as a sculpture so i thought that in one way or another they would coincide based of their titles.

2. The Key concepts that I learned in the first video , " More Human than Human " was that in most cases in ancient times , when sculptures of the human body were created they had unrealistic and exaggerated body features that didn't match the features of an actual person . For instance , the nomadic way of depicting the body was 2 dimensional and show each part of the body from, whatever angle it is drawn from .

The key concepts that i learned from the second video " The measure of all things : Greek art and the human figure " was how far sculpting the human body has come along from ancient times . In this video they spoke about how Greek sculptures inspired people in Greece to do things like work out to try to match these sculptures because it was thought that the sculptures are how people are suppose to be seen .

3.  The videos relate to the readings in the text in ways that they both illustrate the influences sculptors had to create sculptures of the body. For instance , Athletes , kings , and queens . They both explain how some sculptures are sometimes based off culture and personal preference. Also , they explain how sculptures influence other people .

4. I think the films did a great deal of explaining the evolution of sculptures of the human body. For instance , illustrating how sculptures went from unrealistic and exaggerated to trying to or i should say actually creating sculptures that depict movement .
